Newlands Forest Table Mountain

At 09h46 on Sunday the 3rd of November 2019 the Peninsula Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) was activated after a caller reported that a hiker collapsed while walking on one of the routes in the Newlands Forest section of the Table Mountain National Park.

The Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), Metro Medical Rescue Technicians and Rescue Mountaineers were dispatched to the Newlands Forest Station. Hikers in the area reported that the scene of the incident was beneath the forest canopy. The helicopter crew managed to located a clearing in the vegetation close to where the casualty was receiving attention from hikers on the scene. A Rescue Climber as well as an Advanced Life Support Medical Rescuer were hoisted out of the helicopter to the ground and on arrival, the emergency team proceeded to stabilise a middle aged local female hiker. She was then placed in a stretcher and winched into the helicopter which landed at an emergency Landing Zone (LZ) nearby.

At the LZ she received further assistance before being flown to a medical facility for emergency treatment.

We wish the lady a speedy recovery.
