Tokai Forest Cape Town
On Sunday the 24th of February 2019 at 08h34 the Peninsula Wilderness Search And Rescue (WSAR) was activated after a call for assistance was received. It was reported that a Mountain Biker had suffered injuries after taking a fall at one of the downhill tracks in the Tokai Forest in the Central Section of the Table Mountain National Park.
The Metro Rescue Mobile Incident Command vehicle and crew were dispatched to the forest. Our Logistical Support unit also responded in a 4×4 vehicle to service this call. The responders proceeded to the location that was given, and on arrival, a 37 year old female from Cape Town was found to have crashed while negotiating the extreme adventure mountain bike decent known as “Vasbyt”. She had sustained injuries to her arm including a suspected dislocated shoulder. Our Advanced Life Support Medical Rescue Technicians provided the necessary treatment in preparation for a safe evacuation of the lady.
Once the patient was stabilised, she was ferried off the mountain to the parking lot at the Tokai Arboretum where she was transferred to an awaiting ambulance which then transported her to a medical facility for further treatment,
We wish the mountain biker a speedy recovery.

- wear the appropriate personal protective equipment when mountain biking
- alert other mountain bikers higher up when an accident has occurred and that the path may not be clear
