Your cooperation is appreciated.
WSAR would like to thank those members of the public who continue to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. This includes the many hiking, climbing, mountaineering, trail running, mountain biking, boating and recreational clubs out there.
We do acknowledge that we can be a bit noisy at times, and in the process, we may spoil you view or your fun. We promise to be as quick as we can during our response operations so that we can allow you to continue with your adventure.
When you hear, and then see our helicopter preparing to assist those who will require our services, please remove all headgear, secure your loose items, protect your eyes, and sit down as low as possible flat on the path (not on any rocks or boulders). Most importantly, we require you to remain stationary, at least 50 meters from the active scene. Please also obey any instructions that may be given out by our crew members.
WSAR urges you to please:-
- be helicopter aware while the machine may be hovering or operating in your vicinity
- secure all loose items
- protect your eyes from the dust and loose debris that will be created and blown about by the rotorwash of the blades
- organise yourself as soon as our crews dish out instructions, because once the machine is overhead, it will be impossible to hear or convey any instructions
- not gesture or wave to the pilot or the crew at all, during any phase of the operation
- not take any pictures of patient/s under any circumstances
- move upslope as far as possible, in the event that you find yourself above an active rescue operation
- remember that safety comes first, and that this is strictly applied during all of our operations and exercises
Please call 021 937 0300 or 112 for any wilderness or mountain rescue response.
