The SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service (AMS) has become a vital conduit for delivery of regular healthcare services to peripheral areas. We work closely with Provincial Departments of Health and health workers in the communities to assess needs and implement appropriate healthcare programmes. The AMS facilitates access to equitable and effective healthcare, contributes to the improvement in the quality of life of all communities and the provision of aero-medical and other associated humanitarian services.
Our involvement in Search and Rescue
We provide specialised medical, mountain and surf rescue services, working closely with local Metro and affiliated rescue organisations. Our helicopter is the first line of response in case of an emergency in order to bring help to the patient as fast as possible. Only if weather conditions and time of day does not permit the use of a helicopter the ground teams are activated to access the patient via other means.
